Dried Figs are a natural supplier off calcium , it contains the highest level of calcium of all dried fruit! Especially important with African greys parrots, eclectus parrot and some African budgerigars need to have a higher level of calcium in their diets.
Also the dried Fig contains a high level of fibers, fibres are important for the optimal functioning of the stomach intestine system. The dried Figs also contains a higher content of Vit E
When you offer a dried fig several times a week, you will avoid health problems started from the calcium! The dry process will press the natural fruit sugars outwards of the fig skin, that will shows a sticky white layer, to avoid problems with packaging the producer use some maize flower . Be care full with giving your birds dried figs without this white layer, other producers will use chemical Conservation products, Only to give a more nice view to the fig, The human body will give no problem with this kind of chemical additives, for your bird it could be given some healthcare problems!
